Kelly Liken
Dinner for Ang's birthday was at Kelly Liken in Vail. Kelly Liken is currently on Top Chef & recently competed on Iron Chef, where she came in 2nd. The restaurant came on a recommendation from some friends of ours and it was outstanding.

It took awhile to make reservations because they asked questions about names of everyone in the party, special occasions, dietary requirements, etc... Our menus were specially printed for us - complete with "Happy Birthday Angela" on the opening page.
All ingredients are locally sourced, if she can't get something that week in Colorado it is not on the menu. ALL ingredients are organic and sustainably grown.
We did the "Chef's Choice" - which consisted of 5 courses, entirely her choice. The dungeness crab salad was followed by an English pea puree ravioli, halibut to die for, duck which was done to perfection and accompanied by a hoecake with blackberry compote and arugula, and a two course dessert that consisted of a Colorado Peach Pastry and her version of Smores - I am not a fan of smores and I could have eaten this until I was sick!! Dark chocolate cake, topped with smoked marshmallows, glazed with caramel sauce & a toasted coconut.
All of that and they were incredibly accommodating to Jackson. They noticed he was not eating much of the actual food, so they kept bringing him the olive bread that he developed an affinity for.
Kelly Liken spent the evening in the kitchen and when things got busy came out and not only bussed but reset tables. Very down to earth, very refreshing. She signed & sent my menu with me :) Brandon thinks it should be framed & displayed in our dining room.

Bouncer
Wish I could have gotten a better picture of this but was working after dark with an IPhone and an unstable environment. Our annual block party was last night and every year there is a huge bouncer for the kids. Jack was curious about it all night but by later on he wanted to get in. Due to the over population of older kids, his getting in alone was not an option. As we had been at the party quite awhile, Brandon did not think twice about getting in with him. Probably the only time I am going to see that :)
Coffee
Doriana - Practicing Pronunciation
Jack just adores our dear friend Doriana Ruffino, but has had considerable difficulty saying her name. He is determined, and he practices, and practices, and practices...
Airport, Denver
Airport
At the airport, with his pajamas & his truck book from Grandma Sandy - ready to go!
YES - I realize these are somewhat out of order :)
Road Construction
The day they were repaving our street, I literally had to put Jack's high chair at the front door so he would eat anything!
Swim
Infinity pool @ Vail Cascade. We had the pool almost to ourselves and Jack enjoyed the foot wide ledge along the outer edge, he could walk around the pool himself.
Gore Creek
Gore Creek runs right through Vail, crystal clear & cold. |
Lots of rocks, small waterfalls, and fly fishermen. |
Though cold, Jack LOVED walking in the creek. When we finally made him get out the first day he got in the stroller, reached toward the water and kept repeating "why, why, why?"!!! |
Little explorer. |
Milk
To this point Jackson has been very indifferent on the subject of milk. While on vacation he became a huge milk fanatic. After day one in Vail he would walk into the resort's coffee shop and just announce "Milk" to the barista, which of course was quite a spectacle along with his dimples :)
Ang's Birthday
Ketchup & Fries
I am that mom that doesn't subscribe to the typical American diet of fried foods. This was probably the second time ever he has gotten fries. And they were a hit, maybe not as big of a hit as the ketchup, but a hit none the less.
